Vinegar is one of the most common household products. It was used as a food preservative 5,000 years ago and most homes still keep a bottle in their kitchen today. A number of recipes include vinegar and many people top off french fries with a splash of the liquid or use it as a dip with raw vegetables. Restricting vinegar to only an ingredient is wasting the product. There are many other amazing Uses for Vinegar all through the home.
Effective Odor Eliminator
Despite having a very distinct odor of its own vinegar is an amazing odor eliminator. Pour it in drains, add a tablespoon to a load of laundry or use it to deodorize litter boxes or even pets. Dilute a cup of vinegar with a couple of gallons of water and use as a rinse when bathing pets. Vinegar combined with dish soap and hydrogen peroxide will even remove the smell from pets that encounter skunks. Pour baking soda into a drain and then add vinegar if drain smells are due to a small clog. This will dissolve the clog and deodorize the drain at the same time.
Powerful Stain Remover
Eliminate hard water stains from sinks and toilets, clean up messes on carpeting and even use as a spot treatment on laundry. Vinegar is safe on all surface materials and will not bleach carpeting or clothing. Apply directly to any stain and allow it to sit for several minutes before washing away.
Inexpensive Household Cleaner
Vinegar is probably the cheapest multi-purpose cleaner available. Use a water and vinegar solution all over the house. It will remove soap scum in the bathroom, polish mirrors and windows and wash floors. If the smell of the vinegar is unappealing consider adding a few drops of lemon juice or lemon essential oil.
Most people use distilled white vinegar for their cleaning purposes. This product is the cheapest type of vinegar available. This does not mean that apple cider vinegar cannot also do all the same tasks too. It is important to remember that vinegar does not kill all bacteria like staphylococcus. It can also dry out wood, so thoroughly rinse any wood surfaces with clear water after use.
